Fibroblasts are mesenchymal cells derived from the embryonic mesoderm. They provide a number of vital functions including synthesizing components of the extracellular matrix, maintaining the structural integrity of connective tissue, and actively participating in wound healing. In addition, fibroblasts secrete a non-rigid extracellular matrix which is rich in type I and/or type III collagen. Dermal fibroblasts have the ability to switch from a proliferative, migratory phase to a contractile, matrix-remodeling phase during wound healing. Scalp fibroblasts are located in the dermis and play key roles in wound closure. Human Scalp Fibroblasts (HScF) have also been implicated in a number of disorders including androgenetic alopecia and craniosynostosis. HScF can be used to study the pathophysiology of hair loss and craniosynostosis and may help in the development of therapeutics for these diseases. HScF-f from ScienCell Research Laboratories are isolated from human scalp. HScF-f are cryopreserved at passage one and delivered frozen. Each vial contains > 5 x 10^5 cells in 1 ml volume. HScF-f are characterized by their spindle morphology and immunofluorescence with antibody specific to fibronectin. HScF-f are negative for HIV-1, HBV, HCV, mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast, and fungi. HScF-f are guaranteed to further expand for 15 population doublings under the conditions provided by ScienCell Research Laboratories.
