Naive T cells are isolated by depleting CD45RO+ cells via immunomagnetic bead separation from a freshly collected leukopheresis product. Naive T cells are phenotypically classified as CD45+, CD+, and CD45RA+.

A naive T cell is a mature T cell that has differentiated in the bone marrow. Unlike memory T cells, naive T cells have not acquired an activated phenotype, therefore naive T cells can respond to unfamiliar pathogens that have not been previously encountered and initiate an immune response. As a result, these naive T cells can acquire the phenotype and ultimately differentiate into a memory T cell
