Tris-HCl, or Tris hydrochloride, is a zwitterionic biological buffer widely used to regulate the pH of solutions used in cell culture, diagnostic tests, and other biological applications. This buffer is generally prepared by dissolving Tris base and then adding concentrated hydrochloric acid. Tris-HCl is one of Good's buffers, which have a buffering range of between pH 7 to 9 and are ideal for biological research. The advantage of using this buffer is that it minimizes the risk of overshooting the pH, aids in sustaining reproducibility, and avoids the necessity to use strong acids or bases. Solid and ready-to-use liquid varieties of Tris-HCl are available commercially. Visit the supplier page for more information, such as format and grade.
