PIPES buffer is characterized as an ethanesulfonic acid buffer. It is also known as 1,4-Piperazinediethanesulfonic acid dipotassium salt (C8H18N2O6S2) and is ideal for buffering at a pH range of 6.1 to 7.5. One of Good's buffers, PIPES has a pKa value in close proximity to the physiological pH, is capable of maintaining the viability of cells, and is impermeable to cell membranes making it advantageous for extensive usage in cell culture. PIPES buffer is also used in chromatography, protein purification, and diagnostic monitoring. The buffer is known to preserve lipid constituents of living tissues and is also used in fluorescence and electron microscopy. Visit the supplier page for more information on this chemical reagent.
