The FLT3 protein is 993 amino acid residues in length and 112.9 kilodaltons in mass. However, as many as 2 protein isoforms have been identified. It is localized to the ER and membrane of the cell. In terms of tissue specificity, it is notably expressed in bone marrow, in hematopoietic stem cells, in myeloid progenitor cells and in granulocyte/macrophage progenitor cells.
