The protein has an enzyme classification of NADH:ubiquinone reductase (H+-translocating). The protein encoded by ND4 has a predicted amino acid length of 459, a mass of 51.6 kDa, and a mitochondrial subcellular localization. Pathologic involvement is reported in Leber hereditary optic neuropathy. ND4 may also be known by the following names: MTND4, and NADH dehydrogenase subunit 4.
