Anti-solute carrier family 51 subunit alpha antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the SLC51A gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 340 amino acid residues and a mass of 37.7 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the ER and cell membrane. It is reported to be widely expressed with a high expression in ileum. A member of the OST-alpha protein family, it is an important component of the Ost-alpha/Ost-beta complex, a heterodimer that acts as the intestinal basolateral transporter responsible for bile acid export from enterocytes into portal blood. The gene encoding this protein is implicated in Cholestasis. Other names for this target antigen include OST-alpha, organic solute transporter alpha, organic solute transporter, alpha subunit, solute carrier family 51 alpha subunit, and organic solute transporter subunit alpha. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species.
