Western blotting is a staple laboratory technique for the qualitative and semi-quantitative detection of specific proteins. The widespread application of this immunoblot is owed in part to its straightforward methodology, which proceeds from protein gel electrophoresis, to membrane blot transfer, immunostaining, and finally, blot detection. Scientific manufacturers have developed a variety of tools that enable these procedures. For blot transfer, a selection of blot papers and blotting membranes are available. PVDF membranes are ideal when dealing with higher molecular weight proteins, while nitrocellulose is recommended for lower molecular weight proteins. Other supplies, accessories, and consumables are also available.
