We used this instrument a lot in the process of production of different proteins to make vaccines. Quick measurement of DNA and protein concentrations using small volume samples was instrumental for us. One of the features that was especially useful is possibility to easily send the results from the measurement to a given e-mail address. Since we shared this instrument with other companies in the incubator space, saving results by sending them to a given e-mail worked well.

Tips

Pipetting small volumes can be tricky. One has to make sure that 1.5 ul of sample indeed ended up on the sample surface of the instrument rather than spreaded on walls of the pipette tip. Another important point is to avoid introducing air bubbles.

Results Summary

Repeated measurements with the same material show consistent results. Good reproducibility.

The Good

Good quality instrument producing trustworthy results; intuitive interface that offers flexibility to run a custom protocol; small footprint.

The Bad

OS does not allow to install external software (such as Dropbox, for example) on the tablet that controls instrument.

The Bottom Line

Good instrument for labs that are looking to have a compact spectrophotometer with wide range of functions (UV-Vis absorbance between 190 and 840 nm, fluorescence measurement, absorbance colorimetry, absorbance kinectics). Some applications are designed for either sample to be loaded directly onto the sample surface of the instrument (as little as 1 ul can be used) or sample in the cuvette while other applications are cuvette-based only. The fact that single instrument provides all of these options is pretty amazing.
