Stripping Buffers

Stripping buffers are used during blotting techniques such as Western blot to break apart the antigen-antibody interactions on nitrocellulose and PVDF membranes. By removing the bound primary and secondary antibodies, the membrane can be reprobed with new antibodies. This method is useful for multiple investigations of the target protein from one single blot. Stripping and reprobing can also reduce waste and make the procedure more cost-effective. An effective stripping buffer should be strong enough to dissociate the bound antibodies while leaving the blotted proteins intact on the membrane. However, there can still be some loss of protein so it is not advisable to make quantitative conclusions from a reprobed blot. Visit the supplier page for more product information.
