Functionally, this protein is known to play an important role in the formation of lipid droplets (LDs) which are storage organelles at the center of lipid and energy homeostasis. The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid length of 292 residues, a mass of 32.2 kDa, and is a member of the FIT protein family. It is known to be localized in the ER and is notably expressed in heart and skeletal muscle. As many as 2 protein isoforms have been reported.
