Functionally, this protein is known to be a component of SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling subcomplex GBAF that carries out key enzymatic activities, changing chromatin structure by altering DNA-histone contacts within a nucleosome in an ATP-dependent manner. The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid sequence of 1560 residues and a mass of 158.5 kDa. It is known to be localized in the nucleus and is noted to be expressed at moderate levels in heart, brain, placenta, skeletal muscle, and pancreas, and at lower levels in the lung, liver and kidney. As many as 2 protein isoforms have been reported. The BICRA gene has been associated with the disease, Coffin-Siris syndrome.
