Functionally, this protein is known to catalyze the transfer of a geranylgeranyl moiety from geranylgeranyl diphosphate to both cysteines of Rab proteins with the C-terminal sequence -XXCC, -XCXC and -CCXX, such as RAB1A, RAB3A, RAB5A and RAB7A. The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid length of 331 residues, a mass of 36.9 kDa, and is a member of the Protein prenyltransferase subunit beta protein family.
