Anti-neutral ceramidase antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target neutral ceramidase is a known alias name of the protein N-acylsphingosine amidohydrolase 2, encoded by the ASAH2 gene in humans. This 780-amino acid residue protein is known to be involved in the apoptotic pathway and cytokine-mediated signaling pathways, among other biological processes. It is localized to the mitochondria, Golgi, cell membrane, and is secreted of the cell and features O-glycosylated, N-glycosylated, ubiquitinated, cleaved and phosphorylated post-translational modifications. In terms of tissue expression, it is notably expressed in intestine. The term N-acylsphingosine amidohydrolase (non-lysosomal ceramidase) 2 is another synonym for neutral ceramidase.
