Anti-MOBP antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein myelin associated oligodendrocyte basic protein. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 183 amino acid residues and a mass of 21 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cytoplasm. Up to 4 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is notably expressed in the cerebral cortex. MOBP is believed to play a role in compacting or stabilizing the myelin sheath, possibly by binding the negatively charged acidic phospholipids of the cytoplasmic membrane. The MOBP marker can be used to identify Brain Oligodendrocyte Precursor Cells and Brain Oligodendrocytes.* MOBP gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine and chimpanzee species. A number of Mobp antibodies have been mentioned in research publications and have associated citations. Western Blot is a widely used application for these antibodies. ELISA, Immunofluorescence, and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
