Anti-SMG8 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein SMG8 nonsense mediated mRNA decay factor. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 991 amino acid residues and a mass of 109.7 kDa. Up to 3 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is notably widely expressed in many tissue types. A member of the SMG8 protein family, SMG8 is known to be involved in nonsense-mediated decay (NMD) of mRNAs containing premature stop codons. Post-translational modifications have been described, including phosphorylation. The SMG8 gene has been associated with the disease, Alzahrani-Kuwahara syndrome. Synonyms for this target antigen include C17orf71, nonsense-mediated mRNA decay factor SMG8, amplified in breast cancer gene 2 protein, protein SMG8, protein smg-8 homolog, and ALKUS. SMG8 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species. Immunohistochemistry is a widely used application for the SMG8 antibodies listed below. In addition, Western Blot is also a common application.
