Anti-protocadherin 19 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the PCDH19 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 1148 amino acid residues and a mass of 126.3 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cell membrane. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 3 different isoforms for this protein. It is notably expressed in all regions of the brain examined, with lowest levels found in the cerebellum. The protocadherin 19 protein is involved with cell adhesion, among other functions. Post-translational modifications have been described, including glycosylation.
