Anti-ODC1 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein ornithine decarboxylase 1. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 461 amino acid residues and a mass of 51.1 kDa. It is notably widely expressed in many tissue types. A member of the Orn/Lys/Arg decarboxylase class-II protein family, ODC1 is known to catalyze the first and rate-limiting step of polyamine biosynthesis that converts ornithine into putrescine, which is the precursor for the polyamines, spermidine and spermine. The ODC1 marker can be used to identify CD4 Memory T Cells and Effector Memory CD45RA CD4 T Cells.* Synonyms for this target antigen include NEDBA, NEDBIA, ODC, ornithine decarboxylase, and BABS. ODC1 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species.
