Anti-EPM2A antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein EPM2A glucan phosphatase, laforin. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 331 amino acid residues and a mass of 37.2 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cytoplasm. It is found to be expressed in the heart, skeletal muscle, kidney, pancreas and brain. A member of the Protein-tyrosine phosphatase protein family, EPM2A is known to play an important role in preventing glycogen hyperphosphorylation and the formation of insoluble aggregates, via its activity as glycogen phosphatase, and by promoting the ubiquitination of proteins involved in glycogen metabolism via its interaction with the E3 ubiquitin ligase NHLRC1/malin. Synonyms for this target antigen include MELF, laforin, EPM2A, laforin glucan phosphatase, LAFPTPase, and EPM2. EPM2A gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species. A number of EPM2A antibodies have been mentioned in research publications and have associated citations. Western Blot is a widely used application for these antibodies. ELISA and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
