Anti-BLCAP apoptosis inducing factor antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the BLCAP gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 87 amino acid residues and a mass of 9.9 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the membrane. It is ubiquitously expressed across many tissue types. A member of the BLCAP protein family, it is believed to regulate cell proliferation and coordinate apoptosis and cell cycle progression via a novel mechanism independent of both p53/TP53 and NF-kappa-B. Other names for this target antigen include bladder cancer-associated protein, bladder cancer associated protein, bladder cancer related protein (10kD), and BC10. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species.
