In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 264 amino acid residues and a mass of 29.6 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the nucleus. A member of the METTL21 protein family, it is known to be involved with skeletal muscle tissue development. Other names for this target antigen include methyltransferase like 21C, methyltransferase-like protein 21C, and protein-lysine methyltransferase METTL21C. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine and chicken species.
