Anti-polo like kinase 5 (inactive) antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the PLK5 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 336 amino acid residues and a mass of 36.3 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the nucleus and cytoplasm. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 2 different isoforms for this protein. It is reported to be expressed in the brain, neurons and glial cells. A member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase protein family, it is known to be involved with the cell cycle and cell differentiation. Other names for this target antigen include inactive serine/threonine-protein kinase PLK5 and polo-like kinase 5, pseudogene. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog and chimpanzee species.
