Anti-SS18L1 subunit of BAF chromatin remodeling complex antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the SS18L1 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 396 amino acid residues and a mass of 43 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the nucleus. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 5 different isoforms for this protein. A member of the SS18 protein family, it is reported to be a transcriptional activator, which is required for calcium-dependent dendritic growth and branching in cortical neurons. Other names for this target antigen include LP2261, SMARCL2, calcium-responsive transactivator, SS18-like protein 1, SS18L1, nBAF chromatin remodeling complex subunit, and CREST. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, chimpanzee and chicken species.
