Anti-valyl-tRNA synthetase 1 antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the VARS1 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 1264 amino acid residues and a mass of 140.5 kDa. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 2 different isoforms for this protein. A member of the Class-I aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase protein family, it is known to catalyze the attachment of valine to tRNA(Val). The gene encoding this protein is implicated in Neurodevelopmental disorder with microcephaly, seizures, and cortical atrophy. Other names for this target antigen include NDMSCA, VARS, VARS2, valine--tRNA ligase, protein G7a, valRS, valine tRNA ligase 1, cytoplasmic, and G7A. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish and chimpanzee species.
