Anti-p53 apoptosis effector related to PMP22 antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the PERP gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 193 amino acid residues and a mass of 21.4 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cell membrane. It is reported to be expressed in skin, heart, placental, liver, pancreas, keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts. A member of the TMEM47 protein family, it is known to be a component of intercellular desmosome junctions. The gene encoding this protein is implicated in Erythrokeratodermia variabilis et progressiva. Other names for this target antigen include KCP-1, PERP, TP53 apoptosis effector, keratinocyte-associated protein 1, keratinocytes associated protein 1, p53-induced protein PIGPC1, and 1110017A08Rik. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species.
