Anti-BCL2 like 13 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the BCL2L13 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 485 amino acid residues and a mass of 52.7 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the nucleus and mitochondria. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 3 different isoforms for this protein. It is found to be widely expressed, with the highest levels of expression in heart, placenta and pancreas. A member of the Bcl-2 protein family, it is believed to promote the activation of caspase-3 and apoptosis. Other names for this target antigen include MIL1, bcl-2-like protein 13, BCL2-like 13 (apoptosis facilitator), and BCL-RAMBO.
