Company:

BD Biosciences

Product Name:

Fixable Viability Stain 620

Catalog Number:

564996

Clone Number:

I used this viability stain as an alternative to 7-AAD, which is the only viability dye I can use on our Cytometer's parameters (PerCP-Cy™5.5 filter). The advantage to 7-AAD is it is fixable, and there is a reduced risk of use since it is a non-DNA intercalating viability dye. This stain, like many of BD's other viability dyes, is bright and can discriminate my viable population from dead cells.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Applications

Flow cytometry

Sample

Human primary immune cells

Results Summary

This viability stain enabled me to accurately separate my viable cells from my non-viable cells. This allowed me to accurately evaluate the percentage of surface markers I was looking in live cells.

Summary

The Good

Fixable.

The Bad

Degrades with freeze thaw, so make aliquots.

The Bottom Line

Unless I am interested in using 7-AAD/PI/Annexin V staining for viability and apoptosis analysis, I will be using this Fixable Viability stain 620 from BD Biosciences from now on. I had no issues staining and am happy with the signal it provides for my viable cells.
