NPAS3 is a member of the basic helix-loop-helix PAS domain class of transcription factors expressed in the brain. NPAS3 is a replicated genetic risk factor for psychiatric disorders. A knockout mouse model exhibits behavioral and adult neurogenesis deficits consistent with human illness. We used the NPAS3 probe to perform RNA-ISH+IHC in mouse brain samples and validate our icKO model.

To assess regional changes in expression of NPAS3 mRNA in astrocytes, we used BaseScope in situ hybridization in combination with IHC and found an approximately 50%-decrease in expression of NPAS3 in astrocytes of our icKO model.
