Company:

Gibco

Product Name:

Trypan Blue stain (0.4%)

Catalog Number:

15250-061

This Gibco trypan blue stains the dead cells and provide a good visual distinction between live and dead cells. Dead cells with porous cell membrane takes takes up the dye and live cells with intact cell membrane wont. After trypsinizing the cultured cells, a part of it will be taken for cell counting to plate same number of cells across multiple experiments. Further counting will provide an idea about the percentage of viable and dead cells.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Cell death analysis and viable cell plating

Starting Material

Cultured and dissociated single cells

Tips

Dissociate the cells properly to single cells to identify the exact cell number

Results Summary

Output result will be the percentage of viable and dead cell count, which will be calculated by dividing the viable or dead cell count to the total cell count and multiplying it to 100, to obtain the percentage of cells.

Summary

The Good

Easy to use, just need to add same volume of the trypan blue stain to the cell suspension (dilution factor = 2)

The Bad

Nothing really bad, if proper single cells are prepared for the counting.

The Bottom Line

Very clear and reliable analysis of cell viability.
