The race to find vaccines and therapeutics for the novel coronavirus is unprecedented in the sheer scale and speed in which it is being undertaken. One of the first steps in the search for a treatment has been to identify targets. The two primary strategies being considered for combatting SARS-CoV-2 include drugs targeting viral proteins as well as those that enhance the human immune response. Some of the most promising targets within these two strategies are discussed below.
