Fig 1: Effect of antigen-induced arthritis on weight and serum C-reactive protein (CRP). (A) Changes in body weight in AiA and control rabbits across the study, asterisks (*) denote statistically significant differences between AiA and control groups, p < 0.05. (B) Serum CRP levels (µg/ml) at the end of the study. Data represent individual values; medians with IQRs are also indicated (n = 8–11 rabbits per group).
Fig 2: Serum levels of VCAM-1, ICAM-1, CRP, PON-1, MCP-1, and PCT by ELISA method. (a) VCAM-1, (b) ICAM-1, (c) CRP, (d) PON-1, (e) MCP-1, and (f) PCT. P—standard chow; CHOL—standard chow + 1% cholesterol; EXT 10—standard chow + 1% cholesterol + Cornelian cherry extract 10 mg/kg bw; EXT 50—standard chow + 1% cholesterol + Cornelian cherry extract 50 mg/kg bw; SIMV 5—standard chow + 1% cholesterol + simvastatin 5 mg/kg bw Values are presented as mean ± SD. * p < 0.05 vs. P. ** p < 0.05 vs. CHOL.
Fig 3: Chronological changes in CRP. Blood samples were collected once a month, and CRP was measured by ELISA. Serum from rabbits to be measured was divided into two tubes for CRP measurement, and the average value was used for evaluation. After collecting 0.5 mL of blood and allowing it to stand at room temperature for about 30 min, the serum was centrifuged (1400 G at 20 °C for 10 min), frozen, and measured at a later date.
