Participates in the translocation of transit peptide-containing proteins across the mitochondrial inner membrane. Also required for assembly of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I and complex IV as component of some MITRAC complex, a cytochrome c oxidase (COX) assembly intermediate complex.
