Description
Background: Stat3, a member of the Stat family, was originally found as the acute phase response factor, a transcription factor activated by IL-6 and its receptor in liver cells. Stat molecules can be activated by receptor-associated tyrosine kinases through phosphorylation on a single tyro-sine residue. After phosphorylation, Stat proteins can form dimers, translocate into the nucleus and activate gene expression by binding to specific response elements in the promoter of target genes.
