Description

Postsynaptic density protein 95 (PSD-95), also known as synapse-associated protein 90 (SAP-90) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the DLG4 (disks large homolog 4) gene. PSD-95 is a member of the membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) family whose structure includes an N-terminal variable segment followed by three PDZ domains, an SH3 domain, and a guanylate kinase-like domain (GK) connected by disordered linker regions. PSD95 is a Scaffolding protein and is involved in the assembly and function of the postsynaptic density complex. The first and second PDZ domains interact with N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDA-R) and shaker-type potassium channels. The third PDZ domain binds to neuroligins, which are neural cell adhesion molecules at the postsynaptic membrane
