Western Blot: Properdin Antibody (10-18) [NB100-64749] - Human serum was run under reducing conditions on SDS PAGE and transferred to a PVDF membrane. In lane 1, Bio-Rad Precision Plus molecular weight marker was run. In lane 2, Mouse anti Human Factor P was used as the primary antibody. HRP conjugated Goat anti Mouse IgG (H/L) was used as the secondary antibody. As a control, HRP conjugated Goat anti Mouse IgG (H/L) was run in lane 3. Visualization was carried out using the Bio-Rad ChemiDoc Imaging System with automatic exposure.

Factor P binds to microbial surfaces and binds and stabilizes the complement component 3- and complement component 5-convertase enzyme complexes. C3b then acts as an opsonin or initiates the complement pathway again creating a positive feedback loop which acts only on the bacterial cell, leaving the host cells unharmed. Deficiency of factor P makes the host more susceptible to bacterial infections, particularly to Neisseria species and meningococcal infections.<br/ NB100-64749 is reported to inhibit the function of factor P.
