Description
Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) is a member of the serine protease family with a critical role in cholesterol metabolism by controlling the levels of low density lipoprotein (LDL) particles that circulate in the bloodstream. Mutation in the PCSK9 gene is associated with autosomal dominant hypercholesterolemia which is characterized by an increase in LDL cholesterol levels. PCSK9 is expressed in various tissues such as liver, kidney, lung, spleen, etc. Human PCSK9 precursor is 692 aa protein with 74kDa molecular weight. Its mature form has molecular weight ranging of 62-66 kDa in the tissues
