Description
The MINDY2 (MINDY Lysine 48 Deubiquitinase 2) gene is located on human chromosome 15q21.3-q22.1. The MINDY2 protein is ubiquitously expressed in brain, fat and other tissues. The MINDY2 (also known as KIAA1164, FAM63B) gene is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, C.elegans, S.cerevisiae, K.lactis, E.gossypii, and frog. 229 organisms have orthologs with human gene MINDY2. An important paralog of this gene is MINDY1. MINDY2 is a Hydrolase that can remove 'Lys-48'-linked conjugated ubiquitin from proteins. MINDY2 binds to polyubiquitin chains of different linkage types, including 'Lys-6', 'Lys-11', 'Lys-29', 'Lys-33', 'Lys-48' and 'Lys-63'. MINDY2 may play a regulatory role at the level of protein turnover
