LIN28A (Lin-28 Homolog A) is a Protein Coding gene. LIN28A, a highly-conserved RNA binding protein expressed during embryogenesis, plays roles in development, pluripotency, metabolism, as well as tissue repair in adults. The encoded protein functions through direct interaction with target mRNAs and by disrupting the maturation of certain miRNAs involved in embryonic development. LIN28 plays a critical role in the developmental transition, glucose metabolism, and tumorigenesis. At the molecular level, LIN28 is known to repress the maturation of let-7 microRNAs and enhance the translation of certain mRNAs. Aberrant expression of this gene is associated with cancer progression in multiple tissues.
