Description

TOMM40L (Translocase Of Outer Mitochondrial Membrane 40 Like, also known as TOMM40B) is a Protein Coding gene. The TOMM40L gene, located on 1q23.3, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, zebrafish, and frog. TOMM40L belongs to the Tom40 family and is widely expressed in the heart, brain, and other tissues. 2 alternatively spliced human isoforms have been reported. TOMM40L is a potential channel-forming protein implicated in the import of protein precursors into mitochondria. The human protein TOMM40L contains a strong homology of six contiguous amino acids to the tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) coat protein, and the TOMM40L peptide exhibited cross-reactivity with anti-TMV antibodies
