Description
TSPAN3 (Tetraspanin 3, also known as TM4SF8) is a Protein Coding gene. The TSPAN3 gene, located on 15q24.3, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, and frog. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily, also known as the tetraspanin family. The proteins mediate signal transduction events that play a role in the regulation of cell development, activation, growth, and motility. The use of alternate polyadenylation sites has been found for this gene. Tspan3 acts in concert with other tetraspanins as a stabilizing factor of active ADAM10, APP, and the gamma-secretase complex at the plasma membrane and within the endocytic pathway. TSPAN3 is widely expressed in fat, colon, and other tissues. Diseases associated with TSPAN3 include Hyperoxaluria, Primary, Type Ii
