Description
IGF1R binds insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF2). IGF1R is a tetramer composed of 2 alpha and 2 beta chains linked by disulfide bonds. The alpha chains is involved with the formation of the ligand-binding domain, and the beta chain carries the kinase domain. At a protein level is expressed in many tissues including muscle, heart, kidney, adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, fibroblasts, spleen and placenta. IGF1R is overexpressed in malignant tissues where it plays an anti-apoptotic function
