Type I collagen is the most abundant collagen of the human body. It is a fibrous protein composed oftwo components, type I, alpha 1 and type I, alpha 2. This fibrillar collagen is the major structural protein of bone, tendon, skin and cornea. It appears in tissues as the classically designated collagen fibers which are formed from densely-packed thin striated fibrils with marked variation in diameter.
