Description
TMEM168 (Transmembrane Protein 168) gene is located on human chromosome 7q31.1. The TMEM168 protein is ubiquitously expressed in skin, colon and other tissues. TMEM168 comprises 697 amino acid residues, including some putative transmembrane domains. It is reported that TMEM168 controls methamphetamine (METH) dependence in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) of mice. Moreover, a strong link between METH dependence-induced adaptive changes in the brain and mood disorders has been evaluated. The TMEM168 (also known as DKFZp564C012, FLJ13576) gene is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, and frog. 223 organisms have orthologs with human gene TMEM168. TMEM168 is associated with some diseases, including Prostate Rhabdomyosarcoma and Prostate Sarcoma
