Cell cycle protein Bora (previously called C13orf34) integrates the functions of three major mitotic kinases: Cyclin-dependent kinase-1, Polo-like kinase-1, and Aurora A kinase. Overexpression of Bora disrupts spindle assembly and causes genomic instability. The conserved Bora protein is a Plk1 activator, essential for checkpoint recovery after DNA damage in human cells. BORA is the activator of kinase Aurora A and plays an important role in cell cycle progression. Bora is associated with radiosensitivity. Bora may play a significant role in radiosensitivity through the regulation of MDC1 and DNA repair
