SNW1 is a nuclear receptor co-activator involved in splicing and transcription control, including androgen receptor signaling. Overexpression of SNW1 has been linked to adverse prognosis in different cancer types. SNW1 is a nuclear protein known to regulate gene expression. Through its ability to regulate a specific domain of Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) activity in the vertebrate embryo, SNW1 is a critical regulator of neural plate border formation and thus neural crest specification. The Ski-interacting protein (SNW1) acts as a transcriptional co-regulator associated with cell cycle progression, acute and chronic inflammatory responses, and its role involves binding to the NF-kappaB-p-TEFb complex to facilitate transcriptional elongation of some NF-kappaB target genes.
