Description
The mitochondrial carriers (MCs) shuttle a variety of metabolites across the inner mitochondrial membrane (IMM). In human, they are encoded by the SLC25 genes. All MCF members have a tripartite structure, consisting of three tandemly repeated homologous domains about 100 amino acids in length. The mode of transport varies among different MCs with respect to how the substrate translocation depends on the electrical and pH gradients across the IMM.
