This gene encodes a protein that is highly similar to yeast Nuf2, a component of a conserved protein complex associated with the centromere. It belongs to the NUF2 family. NUF2, which is essential for kinetochore-microtubule attachment in mitosis, has emerged as a critical mediator of the cell cycle in multiple tumor occurrences.
