Description
Tripartite motif (TRIM) proteins are key components of the innate immune system, functioning as antiviral restriction factors or modulating signaling cascades that lead to proinflammatory cytokine induction. The gene TRIM23 (tripartite motif containing 23) is a member of the tripartite motif (TRIM) family whose expression putatively participates in many pathophysiological processes. TRIM23 stabilizes PPARgamma protein and mediates atypical polyubiquitin conjugation. TRIM23 plays a critical role in the switching from early to late adipogenic enhanceosomes by stabilizing PPARgamma protein possibly via atypical polyubiquitin conjugation. TRIM23 may be associated with progression of gastric cancer (GC), and may be considered a therapeutic target for GC patients. TRIM23 acts as an oncogene in colorectal carcinogenesis and may provide a novel therapeutic target for CRC management
