The NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase 1 alpha subcomplex subunit 5 (NDUFA5) is a nuclear-encoded structural subunit of CI, located in the peripheral arm. The human gene NDUFA5 encodes a 13-kDa subunit of the mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I (NADH: ubiquinone oxidoreductase). The gene contains 5 exons and 4 introns and spans 14 kb of genomic DNA. The product of the NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase 1 alpha subcomplex 5 (NDUFA5) gene is included in the mitochondrial electron transport chain. The NDUFA5 expression may contribute to the multi-step carcinogenesis in human cervical cancer.
