Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathways regulate many cellular functions including cell proliferation, differentiation, migration and apoptosis. The phosphorylation and activation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) has been implicated in TGFbeta-induced epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and apoptosis. Mitogen-activated protein kinase 10 (MAP3K10, also known as MST, MLK2 and MEKK10) is an upstream activating kinase of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), which regulates adult neurogenesis. This kinase has been shown to activate MAPK8/JNK and MKK4/SEK1, and this kinase itself can be phoshorylated, and thus activated by JNK kinases
